AR2007 Discount Ends July 7; Program Posted

With only two weeks until our best-ever Animal Rights National Conference, we have posted the AR2007 final schedule, speaker list and selected speaker bios. The Conference will be held on July 19-23 at the Westin LAX Hotel. We expect about 800 participants.

The program features 100 speakers from more than 60 groups representing all aspects of animal advocacy. Headliners include Elizabeth Kucinich, rock celebrities Tom Scholz (Boston) and John Feldmann (Goldfinger), Howard Lyman and Paul Watson with an account of his valiant defense of whales.

This year's program will address the key issues facing the animal rights movement, including global warming, population explosion, and government repression. Other popular features include newcomer orientation, cruelty-free shopping at 80 exhibits, 60 informative videos including three premieres, and the Awards Banquet with Animal Rights Hall of Fame awards, Celebrity Animal Advocate awards, and a tribute to Gretchen Wyler.

Because of your past support of FARM, we invite you to take advantage of the discounted $140 registration rate by Saturday, July 7th. Please visit www.ARconference.org for registration and lodging details.

Join Our Bite Global Warming Day on Aug 18th!

We invite you to join our new Bite Global Warming Day on August 18th. The purpose is to alert our nation's decision makers that meat production is a key source of greenhouse gases.

You can participate by distributing our colorful postcards, putting up our posters and more.

Our favorite leafleting locations are rallies for presidential candidates or similar events likely to raise the awareness of decision-makers. Reduced meat production must be a key part of the solution to the global warming crisis.

The Bite Global Warming Day is a highlight of our Bite Global Warming Campaign that use billboards, posters, T-shirts, postcards, letters to the editor, and the Internet, all designed to expose the meat connection. The MySpace page now boasts 8,000 friends!

Please visit our website and order our educational materials.

Equal Justice Alliance Works to Defeat AETA

Equal Justice Alliance (EJA) is a coalition of animal protection and other social justice groups spearheaded by FARM to protect freedom of speech/assembly for activists by defeating the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA).

For the past six months, we have been reaching out for help to Congress, the legal profession and the social justice community.

Outreach to the legal profession has taken the form of forums about the threat to freedom of speech and assembly posed by AETA. The NY City Bar Association held a large meeting in May. We are also asking several law firms to consider filing a complaint against the Act.

In March, we held an AETA briefing for Congressional aides. Now, we are contacting Congressional offices to determine each Member's position on AETA and to raise general awareness of the Act. Eventually, we plan to amend the provisions that chill legitimate protest of animal abuse.

We have recruited a score of organizations in support of our work, including Animals and Society Institute, Christian Vegetarian Association, COK, Earth Island Institute, IDA, LCA, League of Humane Voters, National Lawyers Guild, PETA, SAEN, SHARK, United Animal Nations, United Poultry Concerns, and Vegan Outreach.

Please visit the EJA website to learn more about AETA and how to support our campaign. If you're an attorney, please contact our Executive Director.

Start Planning for World Farm Animals Day

Each year, 50 billion land animals are killed for their flesh, milk, and eggs. On or around October 2nd, activists in all 50 states and two dozen other countries observe World Farm Animals Day (WFAD) to expose the needless suffering and deplorable conditions imposed on animals by factory farms and slaughterhouses.

Join the global outcry this October, as we memorialize the sensitive individuals victimized by an industry that ruthlessly tortures and kills 98% of all animals abused by humans. WFAD observances include vigils, protests, cage-ins, die-ins, funeral marches, video screenings, fasts, and memorial services. Other events can include leafleting, info tables & lectures.

Don't miss this chance to be part of an international day of action to raise awareness about the moral, environmental, and public health hazards of factory farming… start planning now.

FARM Publishes Thousands of Letters

In the past six months, we published approximately 1,000 letters to the editor on eleven topics in more than 200 papers. The topics included new year's resolutions, cancer, environment, global warming, lent, Meatout, Earth Day, animal feed contamination, vegan babies, Mother's Day, and July 4th.

Letters to the editor are the second most widely read section of the newspaper after the front page. They are one of the most most effective vehicles for bringing our message to millions of middle Americans whom we don't reach in other ways. Our program is estimated to generate up to 100 million viewings per year.

Please join our highly successful Letters from FARM network.
