Meatout 2006 Events Planned Throughout U.S.

In March, animal, consumer, and environment protection activists in a thousand communities in all 50 states and two dozen other countries will welcome Spring in front of their local fast food outlets. They will offer their neighbors samples of wholesome, convenient, delicious, nonviolent veggie burgers, soy dogs, and “chicken” nuggets.

Others will arrange information tables, exhibits, lectures, cooking demonstrations, feeding of the homeless, and public dinners. At all events, visitors will be asked to “kick the meat habit on March 20th (first day of Spring) and explore a wholesome nonviolent plant-based diet.”

Please visit our Action Center to find out how to represent your community in this massive world-wide campaign.

We provide guidance, exhibit and handout items, media liaison, and an online Events Directory. You provide a few hours of your time and a lot of heart.

Want to do more? Why not coordinate a Meatout Walk! These events raise public awareness,  your cardio conditioning, your opportunity to meet other local activists, and funds for future Meatout campaigns. Each registered participant receives a Meatout T-shirt.

The occasion is the 22nd annual observance of Great American Meatout, the world’s largest annual grassroots diet education campaign. Two dozen governors and mayors are issuing special proclamations. Hundreds, of billboards, bus cards, and letters to the editor carry the Meatout message to millions.

Please take a look at last year's event photo gallery, review the detailed guidance page, then register your event, even if your plans are tentative.

Nat'l Conference 1/2-Off Registration Ends 2/15

Half-price registration for the Animal Rights 2006 National Conference is set to end on February 15.

When you register, you will be assigned a personal web page in a highly sophisticated virtual conference community system. This will enable you to receive conference updates and messages from other registrants, publish a personal profile, interact with other registrants and conference management, request or offer shared rides or housing, request or offer employment or lunch dates, arrange private or public meetings, schedule their conference agenda, and much more.

The Conference will be held on August 10-14 at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria, a suburb of Washington DC. This is our most attractive venue since we started hosting national animal rights conferences in 1981. The building has lots of sunlight, and we have the entire conference level. It is located on a small lake, adjoins a botanic garden, and runs a free shuttle to the Metro and National Airport.

More than 50 speakers have already signed on, with an expected total of 100. They include Lorri Bauston, Marc Bekoff, Michael Budkie, Lawrence Carter, Cat Clyne, Karen Davis, Karen Dawn, Debra Erenberg, Alex Hershaft, Steve Hindi, Pattrice Jones, Elliot Katz, Greg Lawson, Anthony Marr, Lauren Ornelas, Charles Patterson, Sherry Schlueter, Richard Schwartz, Veda Stram, and Paul Watson.

Program highlights will be an observance of the 25th anniversary of the U.S. animal rights movement, eyewitness accounts of Katrina animal rescue, and a report on the daring Sea Shepherd campaigns to defend seals and whales. Other traditional features will include workshops, rap sessions, campaign reports, videos, exhibits, Newcomer Orientation, Employment Clearinghouse, Networking Receptions, musical interludes, and the Awards Banquet. A number of post-conference activities are planned for Monday, August 14.

Conference Sponsors and Supporters include, FARM, In Defense of Animals, Veg News, Vegetarian Times, Animal Acres, E Magazine, Impact Press, Satya.

To register for this anniversary event, go online or call 888-ASK-FARM. For hotel reservations, call 800 HILTONS and note Animal Rights Conference.
