Each year, 50 billion land animals are killed for their flesh, milk, and eggs. And on October 2nd each year, activists in all 50 states and two dozen other countries expose the needless suffering and deplorable conditions imposed on animals by factory farms and slaughterhouses. Join the global outcry this October, as we memorialize the sensitive individuals victimized by an industry that ruthlessly tortures and kills 98% of all animals used by humans. World Farm Animals Day observances typically include funeral processions, protests, cage-ins, and/or showing slaughterhouse footage. Become a force for the animals: Use this day to kick off a campaign against an abusive company in your area. Start planning your World Farm Animals Day observance early. Readers also learned about the meat industry's inadequate response to Mad Cow Disease, the weight gain associated with drinking cow's milk, and the correlation between breast cancer and diets high in animal fat. Here are some selected excerpts:
Sabina Fund Proposals Due July 15th
Each year, FARM provides grants of $500 to $1,000 to grassroots vegetarian advocacy projects all over the globe. Last year alone, the Sabina Fund supported 20 groups in 9 countries, including India, Israel, Kenya, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Poland, Romania, and Russia. Among the overseas projects made possible by Sabina Fund support are: providing free plant-based food to the homeless and destitute, hosting cooking demonstrations and seminars that emphasize the nutritional benefits of plant foods, and documenting violations of animal welfare statutes for animals in transit.
