Vegan
Earth Day 2009 was a huge success! FARM’s
network of grassroots volunteers carried
the vegan message to more than
130 communities across the U.S.
and Canada for Earth Day. Check out the
updated website at www.BiteGlobalWarming.org.
Activists educated caring citizens and
environmental activists that changing
light bulbs and recycling is not enough
and the consequences of animal agriculture
upon the environment is of the utmost
concern.
FARM
mailed out over 100 full Earth Day
event packs complete with handouts,
stickers, signup sheets and more. Our colorful postcard-sized
handouts were a hit – we sent 20,000
handouts for distribution at Earth
Day activities! Each handout carries a concise
message linking animal agriculture to environmental
devastation and offers a free
Veg Starter Guide and weekly
vegan recipes. FARM also launched an
online Vegan
Earth Day Pledge and received 430
pledges for Earth Day!
In
the nation’s capital,
FARM staff and dedicated volunteers conducted
outreach at the massive Earth Day festival
and free concert on the National Mall. With
thousands in attendance, FARM teamed up with
the Vegetarian
Society of DC to educate attendees with
an information booth at this observance organized
by Earth Day Network. Thousands were made
aware of the vegan message through large
signs, handouts, sign-up sheets, and even
an interview with Channel 9 news! The Washington
Post mentioned one of the large signs in
the crowd, which read “Weapons of Mass
destruction - GO VEGAN” featuring a
picture of a crossed fork and knife.
With
increasing public awareness about green living,
more and more people are recognizing the
magnitude of their food choices and adopting
a compassionate, environmentally-friendly
vegan diet.
